There's an app for that: Wildlife Sightings

"Ewwwwww" was my first thought when I read Outside Magazines article, EXPEDITION: ROADKILL via Twitter this morning; Then followed by an "Awesome" when I learned that their is an 'app for that' and that I could participate! Yup, it seems a group of scientists have a roadkill survey , mostly for bikers. They want to know what & where these wildlife and vehicle impacts are occurring. I'm a hiker, so unless I'm road walking, there's not much for me to do, right? Nope! Reading this article led me to the before mentioned Android app iNaturalist. It appears that a couple of grad students who are half tech, half Naturalists, decided to build a data base as the Master's final project at UK Berkeley's School of InformationThe result iNaturalist.org! It's not just about recording roadkill. It's also a place to document any and all wildlife or plant sightings. Did I mention it's FREE!!!

"From hikers to hunters, birders to beach-combers, the world is filled with naturalists, and many of us record what we find. What if all those observations could be shared online? You might discover someone who finds beautiful wildflowers at your favorite birding spot, or learn about the birds you see on the way to work. If enough people recorded their observations, it would be like a living record of life on Earth that scientists and land managers could use to monitor changes in biodiversity, and that anyone could use to learn more about nature.

That's the vision behind iNaturalist.org. So if you like recording your findings from the outdoors, or if you just like learning about life, join us!-iNaturalist.org, About-
