Epic Quest for the Mug: Mt. Washington & Mt. Monroe

Just as Indiana Jones searched for the holy grail in the Last Crusade; Today as your reading this, we too are on a similar quest! Except our 'grail' will be the official MWOBS coffee mug, and our 'grail diary', the AMC White Mountain Guide showing us the route to the mugs hiding place! We refuse to drink coffee from the 'I climbed Mt. Monadnock' mug any longer. Furthermore, sipping from the 'Waterville Valley' mug we acquired while hiking the Osceola's & Tecumseh last year is no longer fulfilling! No, today we are in search of a mug known to dwell on the highest peak in the eastern United States! We'll brave the threat of rain. The possibility of thunderstorms. Endure gusty winds while ascending steep sections of rock, and possibly face the ferocious 'Marty Kitty' protector of the mug, who will only allow it's release in exchange for $9.95!

Seriously though, for the very first time we're placing our boots on the Ammonoosuc Ravine trail and pointing them towards the summit of Mt. Washington, our most epic journey to date. We are very much looking forward to following in the footsteps that so many of you have placed before us; and witness with our own eyes the beauty and majesty of creation that everyone photographs so well. We are as excited, as we are nervous, as we are prepared.

Our best plan will be to hike the Ammo to Lakes of the Clouds Hut where we will rest and claim our bunks for the night. Then it will be on to summit Mt. Monroe close by and return to the hut for the night. On Friday morning we'll bid the hut and her 'Croo' goodbye as we head to the summit of Mt. Washington! Following our visit, exploration of the summit and traditional pics (also defeat Marty and capture the 'grail' mug) We'll be descending via the Trinity Heights Connector to Gulfside to the Jewell Trail and home. Of course with us hiking at the Home of the World's Worst Weather , It's all weather dependent. Worst case may be hiking the Ammo to the hut and return that same way; either way is fine with us.

Hopefully I'll be enjoying my morning coffee on Saturday in our newest edition in the mug collection! Have a safe & Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Hiking!
