Winged Wednesday: Purple Longwing

Our Fourth of July hike brought us out to the Davis Wildlife Refuge over the weekend where we visited the Town if North Kingstown historical cemetery #6. The final resting place of Rhode Islands 2nd Militia, Major Joshua Davis and his family. Major Davis is a Revolutionary War veteran.

While we were passing through a field of wildflowers there were many winged things fluttering and zipping around! This little one caught our eye, not only for it's color, but also how it was so well camouflaged among the flowers........see it? After a little research I discovered it to be a butterfly belonging to a class of Longwings. Very cool! To read our full blogpost about our trip on Denali, click the 'Davis' link at the top.
