Mt. Monadnock "The Mountain That Stands Alone"

Monadnock is the first mountain we had ever stepped foot on. It was in October of 2010 and I remember climbing to the summit wearing jeans & work boots. I carried a wooden hiking stick that I cut from the backyard and brought only water and snacks. Cristy and Scott Jr. (who was only 8 at the time) carried up their McDonald's breakfast burrito's!  Climbing up the White Dot trail; three hours had passed by the time we reached the summit survey disk. It was a beautiful day. A total of six hours had passed by the time we reached the car and our legs were absolutely destroyed......We really felt like we had done something. We drove to our hotel and crashed. Since then we've visited Mt. Monadnock three more times and have hiked on five other 4,000 footers in N.H.. Monadnock is still to this day our favorite mountain to hike.

This passed Friday the rain & humidity cleared out making it a great day to drive up to Jaffrey. Since we'd been driving 200 miles one way to reach the Whites, Monadnock now seems so much closer. Although Scotty got overheated just below the summit, the views are still rewarding.
